The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) provides credentialing in Nursing Informatics. Credentialing for professionals is the process of objectively evaluating an individual’s current training, experience, and competence to provide a particular service and/or procedure. Credentialing is especially important in the cutting edge field of informatics to validate experience and lend credibility. Given that nurses represent the largest body of healthcare providers, informatics nurses should aggressively promote a vision of clinical information systems design, focus, and implementation that reflects and supports the crucial role of the nursing profession in the health care industry. Certification enables nurses specializing in informatics to promote this vision by validating their ability to speak to the issues involved.
